Hello Fellow Travelers!
I know I’ve been posting a lot of guest posts lately. Poor you guys…had to get advice from locals about what to do when you go to someone else’s home town. I know, it’s not very personal to post guest posts, but hopefully it was a bit helpful and you got some cool new insights. The reason I’ve been leaving the blogging up to guests lately is because I’ve been out having a baby. Anyway, I’m back now and ready to get more personal travel blogs posts on here.
So, you may be wondering what I was doing the whole time I was pregnant (only growing a human…IN MY BODY…no big deal). With regards to travel, however, I went to some awesome places including Orlando, Bryce Canyon, and Idaho, among others. Here are some highlights.
I saw bears!
So, you know how they say places like Montana, Idaho, Utah, and…Russia…are filled with bears. Well, yeah, based on one experience, I’m inclined to say it’s absolutely accurate.
I went to Yellowstone Bear World on the way home from a family trip in Idaho, and it was radical. You pay a fee and drive your car through…basically…a Western version of a safari, meaning you see bears, moose, and deer, instead of lions and stuff.
It’s a great activity if you have kids that love animals. Just don’t go in a convertible, unless you want to get eaten.
I almost died. In a river.
The next bit of exciting news is that I, along with my entire family almost died, and it was not at bear world. We decided to go canoeing down a river while I was 8 months pregnant, despite our better judgement. It did not end well, and we hit a rock, and the water was cold, and it was terrifying. Word of advice: don’t canoe down a river. Leave the canoeing to shallow, tepid, and calm waters. I, for one, will only be canoeing in a bathtub from now on.
My daughter saw a real life elephant and Mickey Mouse all in one trip.
If you want to excite your 2 year old, take them to Disney World. I was worried that she would be too young to enjoy it, and I would waste all my money. Not so. She had a blast seeing Mickey, Minnie, and all of her Disney heroes.
Above all, she was way into the animals at Animal Kingdom. Don’t believe me? Check out this video of her seeing an elephant for the first time. Kill me with cuteness why don’t you! She is saying “beautiful” and “elephant,” for those of you that don’t speak 2 year old.
I almost died again. This time at Bryce Canyon.
So, even though it’s the biggest blessing in the world, being pregnant is also kind of hard for some people (me included). I throw up a lot and get really fat and…you know…blahblahblah…the works. That being said, it’s not a great idea to go on a strenuous hike, even if it is in the gorgeous Bryce Canyon. Yeah, I thought they were going to have to helicopter me out, but I did it. I can do hard things.
I saw Shakespeare.
Come on, I didn’t actually see the dead guy, but I did see some of his plays in Cedar City, UT. It was exquisite for a dorky lover of the English language…like me. Also, Taming of the Shrew is incredibly sexist. Yep.
That about sums it up. The rest of the time, to be perfectly honest, I was probably catching up on Netflix.
