Bermuda, BAHAMA, come on pretty mama…what should I do in the Bahamas if I only have one day (is that how the song goes?)
The Bahamas is one of the most popular cruise stops, and there is good reason. It truly is one of the most gorgeous places in the Caribbean.
My first recommendation for the Bahamas is to go to Atlantis and spend like a week there, but truth be told, Atlantis is expensive. It’s expensive to stay there, it’s expensive to eat there, and activities are expensive. If you have the money, however, it’s well worth it.
If you are simply looking for something to do on your cruise stop in the Bahamas, this is what I would recommend.
1. Make the Bahamas your beach day.
You don’t need to book an excursion with your cruise line to enjoy the Bahamas. Once you get off the boat, you can simply take a taxi to the beach. It usually costs about $4/person, so it’s an inexpensive way to enjoy the fun. Consider renting a boogie board, or a surfboard, because the waves are awesome. Whatever you do, bring sunscreen, because the sun will burn you. *Recipe for itchy sunburn below.
2. Rent a scooter and explore the Bahamas.
You can drive around the whole island within a couple of hours, and there are lots of amazing stops and beaches along the way. There are also a lot of celebrity houses, but you won’t know where they are. You can just feel cool knowing you are driving past celebrity houses. This is probably one of my favorite things to do in the Bahamas.
3. Eat conch for lunch.
Conch is a special Caribbean treat, and it’s a natural aphrodisiac. ‘Nuff said.
4. Go shark diving with Stuart Cove.
You can book a diving excursion with the cruise line, but I personally like booking in advance with Stuart Cove. Just let them know in advance what time they should pick you up from the dock and what time they should drop you off at the boat. Stuart Cove has many different diving experiences, but the best is the shark diving. They typically take you to a popular shipwreck and feed sharks, so they get up close and personal. If the idea of big sharks swimming around you gives you a panic attack, you can choose a less threatening type of dive with this diving company.
*How Do I Get Rid Of An Itchy Sunburn?
Okay, have you ever done something stupid and gotten super sunburned to the point that you are itching and want to jump out of your skin, because it’s so painful? I fall into this trap whenever I am in a climate that is close to the sun, but it’s not particularly sunny that day. New rule for myself: ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN.
If you have fallen into this trap and you have an itchy sunburn, here is a good way to ease the pain.
Formula for How to Get Rid of Itchy Sunburn Symptoms
- 800 MG of Ibuprofen
- 2 Benadryl
- Icy cold compress
- Burn Free Pain Relieving Gel
You need all four of these ingredients for the formula to work best, and you should feel better soon. I would totally skip out on the aloe vera or any other lotion as it will just smother your skin and make you feel more itchy. Also, I know some people recommend essential oils to help with sunburns, but I am not sure which ones work the best. I just stick to my 4-step process and it seems to help. Also, if you can get someone to ever so lightly run their fingers on your back, it should help.
